Youth News for Outreach and Witnessing
YNOW
PO Box 400
Monroe MI 48161
YNOW Magazine was created for the local Christian community, highlighting students and young adults ages 13 to 24. YNOW stands for “Youth News for Outreach & Witnessing”, which is exactly what the magazine will accomplish. The goals of YNOW are to help youth groups send their positive message to the community, acknowledge individuals for their accomplishments, encourage involvement of Christian youth, and generate an interest among non-believers and their parents.

Lori A. McCloud

After being a volunteer youth leader for nine years, it’s a natural fit for me to be a part of YNOW magazine. While earning my degree in Grand Rapids , I became involved in the Young Life program and worked at Camp Geneva on Lake Michigan . In 2001, I moved back to Monroe County and my husband and I became youth leaders for high school and junior high students at Grace Church in Toledo . I love working with teens and young adults because they have an uninhibited passion for sharing their faith (not to mention I was 16 when I made the life-changing decision to give my life to the Lord).

I have been on several missions trips, including West Virginia (helped build a youth camp), Tijuana (helped build a homeless shelter), Trinidad (painting, field work, street ministry), and Cancun (street ministry). Four down and looking forward to many more! If you haven’t been on a missions trip yet, don’t let another day go by without looking in to it. It will change your life.

My prayer is that YNOW is not only an outlet for youth groups to share what God is doing within their group, but that it impacts youth around Monroe County and inspires them to get involved. As the magazine evolves, I pray that God will work through it in ways greater than I’ve ever imagined and that it will always be used for His glory.

Justin J. Matley

My range of professions and activities has been diverse, but through it all there are two common themes. First, I love to challenge myself. Second, those challenges tend to make a difference, not in my life alone, but in the lives of the people around me and my community. I've made it a habit of doing things that I feel God appreciates.

Most people know me best for producing The Monroe Journal, a publication that has always been focused on good, positive news in Monroe County and the things that make our community special. What isn't known so well is the time I've spent serving our country in the U.S. Army, thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail while raising money for charity, rebuilding homes with Habitat for Humanity for Sri Lankan tsunami victims, or my recent involvement with Big Brothers Big Sisters. For some time I've also been researching ways to help charitable organizations be more productive via web based software.

These are the types of things I do to make a difference, and sometimes I imagine God is looking down, grinning, thinking to himself, "What's Matley up to this time?", and this time it's YNOW. I'm thoroughly excited to be involved with this project, and expect the outcome to be extraordinary. There are thousands of kids and young adults out there that are also trying to make a difference and live a Christian life. If this publication supports or helps them in any way, then YNOW will have been a great success.
